interesting fact concerning the growth of stakes:

On December 31, 1997 the Church had 2,424 stakes. It took 150 years to reach
1,212 stakes, and just 17 years to add the next 1,212 stakes (reaching the
total of 2,424).

The 3000th stake was the Freetown Sierra Leone Stake, created in Africa in November of 2012.
