ANSWER: As of October 2, 2010, 2009, 69 General Authorities have been granted emeritus status. Elder Eldred G. Smith has served the longest as an emeritus General Authority. He completed 31 years as an emeritus General Authority on October 6, 2008. Of the 69 brethren granted emeritus status, 47 are still living and 22 have passed away. The most recent emeritus General Authority to pass away was Elder Hans B. Ringger.
