Ordained apostles who were not members of the Quorum of Twelve
Apostles
1. Joseph Smith: Joseph was ordained an apostle in May of 1829. He served
as the First Elder of the Church and as the President of the High Priesthood
until his martyrdom. The Quorum of the Twelve was organized after the
organization of the Quorum of the First Presidency.
2. Oliver Cowdery: Oliver was also
ordained an apostle in May of 1829. He served as the Second Elder of the Church
and also as an Assistant President of the Church. The Quorum of the Twelve was
organized after the organization of the Presidency. Oliver was excommunicated

3. Hyrum Smith: Upon Oliver Cowdery's
excommunication from the Church, Hyrum was given all the priesthood and offices
formerly held by Oliver, including the apostleship. This occurred on
4. Jedediah M Grant: Brigham Young called
Jedediah Grant to serve as 2nd Counselor in the First Presidency and ordained
him an apostle on
5. Daniel H Wells: Brigham Young called
Daniel Wells to serve as 2nd Counselor in the First Presidency upon the death
of Jedediah M Grant. Elder Wells was ordained an apostle on
6. Joseph A Young: Joseph Young was
ordained an apostle on
